Ep 7 - My 2019 Comrades Marathon Experience
Sunday Sep 08, 2019
Sunday Sep 08, 2019
Discussing and providing inside tips and suggestions on the 94th edition of the 2019 Comrades Marathon from Durban to Pietermaritzburg that I competed in on June 9 with 179 other Aussies, 1800 International runners and another 18,000 runners. An epic event on all scales that I highly recommend that you try to get over for, with an atmosphere and sense of community that is unmatched to any other big international race that I have been fortunate enough to compete in so far. International athletes are well catered for by race organisers and their distinctive blue bibs makes for easy spotting to help encourage and support each other throughout the epic challenge.

Ep 6 - Learning to run on feel again
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Talking about how I believe that always training and racing by the numbers on the watch rather than running on actual feel may be compromising your best performance on race day. Don't be a slave to the numbers and trust and take more notice of how the body is actually feeling and respond accordingly, NO BEEP BEEP!

Ep 5 - ATP and our 3 power stations within
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Discussing how our bodies evolutionary energy molecule—adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—is resynthesised via chemical action using our 2 anaerobic systems or oxidatively using our aerobic system. I discuss lactic acid and how it relates to your fast run sessions and racing as well as debunk a few myths on lactic acid. Lactic acid is a by-product of the breaking down of glucose and plays a very important role in being recycled back into an energy source as well as being utilised by the heart. Training in and around our lactic acid threshold—approximately 4 mmol/L blood—stimulates adaptation allowing you to run faster before reaching your anaerobic or lactate threshold.

Ep 4 - Building your base aerobic fitness to run faster and improve economy
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Saturday Sep 07, 2019
Building your base aerobic fitness to run faster is pivotal to building the framework for your racing season and overall fitness as a runner. It's important to build up a solid aerobic fitness before the hard racing starts to increase the efficiency of breaking down stored fats for energy use and reduce the amount of limited glycogen stores you are utilising. To increase the volume and efficiency that we deliver oxygenated blood to the working muscles and extract the waste along with improving the overall strength and integrity of our body and connective tissues to enable them to absorb the load and stress that the higher intensity sessions place on them.
